Product Overview
Biochemazone Washer Disinfector Soil Test BZ487 is a test soil for checking and validating that the washer-disinfectors used for medical devices clean properly, in line with ISO 15883-5:2021. It simulates the residues and body fluids that are hardest to clean off a device, and its bright red colour makes any soil that survives the cycle easy to see. The formula is non-toxic and contains no blood products.
The soil is spread in the chamber or on the load as a paste, left to dry for 30 minutes and put through the normal cycle; red residue afterwards shows where the machine is not cleaning. Healthcare facilities, dental practices and laboratories use BZ487 for routine control, for the quarterly soil test recommended by HTM 01-05, for validation, and for troubleshooting a machine that is not cleaning as it should.
BZ487 can be ordered as Dried Powder or as a Premixed Ready to Use Formulation – the powder in 5 g, 10 g, 20 g and 50 g packs for making 50 mL, 100 mL, 200 mL and 500 mL, and the premixed formulation in 50 mL, 100 mL, 200 mL and 500 mL packs. The dried powder has a 2-year shelf life and can be reconstituted easily. Unopened, it has a 2-year shelf life at 2–30 °C and is shipped at room temperature. Two Versions to Select
- Dried Powder: Soil powder that is mixed with water and ink to a thick paste before the test.
- Premixed Ready to Use Formulation: Supplied mixed and ready to apply, with no weighing or mixing.
Select the version first and then the pack size. The Dried Powder has a 2-year shelf life and can be reconstituted easily: 5 grams is for making 50 mL, 10 grams is for making 100 mL, 20 grams is for making 200 mL and 50 grams is for making 500 mL. The Premixed Ready to Use Formulation is supplied in 50 mL, 100 mL, 200 mL and 500 mL packs.
How to Use
- Prepare the soil paste: mix the Dried Powder with water and ink to a thick, uniform paste, or use the Premixed Ready to Use Formulation as supplied.
- Apply the soil: spread it evenly in the washer-disinfector chamber.
- Dry: leave the soil to dry for 30 minutes, to simulate real contamination.
- Run the cycle: start the standard cleaning cycle.
- Inspect: check the chamber for red residue. Any red that remains marks an area that was not cleaned adequately.
