How do I make TBS from BZ217?
For 1X TBS (50 mM Tris-HCl, 150 mM NaCl, pH 7.4), add 50 mL of BZ217 and 8.77 g of sodium chloride to about 900 mL of water, check the pH and make up to 1 L. Ready-made TBS (BZ223) is also available.
Why is my diluted buffer not exactly pH 7.4?
Dilution and temperature both shift Tris pH slightly. Tris pH drops by about 0.03 units per °C, so check and adjust the working buffer at the temperature you will use it.
Is BZ217 suitable for protein work?
Yes. Tris-HCl pH 7.4 is one of the most common buffers for protein extraction, purification and enzyme assays.
Is BZ217 sterile?
BZ217 is a laboratory buffer stock. For a sterile Tris stock use BZ214 (pH 8.0, autoclaved), or ask for a sterile pH 7.4 preparation.
How should 1 M Tris-HCl pH 7.4 be stored?
Store at 2–30 °C, tightly closed. Unopened bottles have a 1-year shelf life and ship at room temperature.
