Product Overview

Biochemazone 1 M Tris-HCl, pH 8.8 BZ216 is a buffer stock for the resolving (separating, lower) gel of SDS-PAGE and native PAGE. It sets the alkaline pH at which proteins separate by size after leaving the stacking gel.

In the Laemmli system the resolving gel is buffered at pH 8.8 with Tris-HCl at about 0.375 M final concentration. BZ216 supplies that buffer as a ready-made 1 M stock at pH 8.8 at 25 °C, saving weighing and titration. Labs that use the classic 4X recipe can choose 1.5 M Tris-HCl pH 8.8 (BZ201).

Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.

Frequently asked questions

What is Tris-HCl pH 8.8 used for?

It buffers the resolving (lower) gel of SDS-PAGE and native PAGE, where proteins separate by size.

How much BZ216 do I add to a resolving gel?

For 0.375 M final Tris-HCl, use 375 mL of BZ216 per litre of gel mix (3.75 mL per 10 mL). Follow your recipe for acrylamide, SDS, APS and TEMED.

What is the difference between BZ216 and BZ201?

Both are pH 8.8 resolving-gel buffers. BZ216 is 1 M; BZ201 is 1.5 M and is used as a 4X stock (2.5 mL per 10 mL of gel). Choose the one that matches your recipe.

What do I use for the stacking gel?

Use 1 M Tris-HCl pH 6.8 (BZ206).

How should 1 M Tris-HCl pH 8.8 be stored?

Store at 2–30 °C, tightly closed. Unopened bottles have a 1-year shelf life and ship at room temperature.
