Frequently asked questions
What is in Ringer’s solution?
Sodium chloride, potassium chloride and calcium chloride in water, at levels that make it isotonic with mammalian body fluids (about 309 mOsm/L).
What is the difference between Ringer’s and Tyrode’s solution?
Tyrode’s solution also contains magnesium, glucose, phosphate and bicarbonate. Ringer’s is a simpler salt solution without an energy source or buffer.
Is BZ211 suitable for frog tissue?
Frog and other amphibian tissues need a lower salt level. For amphibian work, use our amphibian Ringer’s solution (BZ716).
Is the solution sterile?
Yes. It is filtered through a 0.2 µm membrane. Once opened, handle it aseptically.
How should Ringer’s solution be stored?
Store at 2–30 °C, tightly closed. Unopened bottles have a 1-year shelf life and ship at room temperature.
