Biochemazone hCG Positive Artificial Human Urine BZ499 is a sterile, ready-to-use synthetic urine that closely mimics natural human urine and contains defined, physiologically relevant levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). The standard formulation contains urea, creatinine, uric acid, the electrolytes sodium, potassium and chloride, ammonium, sulfates and phosphates, and the hCG hormone, at a pH of 5.5 to 7.0.
BZ499 replicates the conditions of a positive pregnancy test. It is used for the calibration and quality control of hCG test strips and lateral flow assays, for developing and validating urinalysis techniques and reagent systems, for testing sensors and medical devices that come into contact with urine, and as a safe, standardized matrix for teaching and method development. It is a laboratory control matrix and is not a substitute for a real specimen.
It is supplied stabilized, with 0.05% preservative, and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains hCG, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The pH and the composition – glucose or other urine analytes, for example – can be customized.
