Biochemazone Artificial Human Urine BZ340, also called synthetic human urine (SHU), is a sterile, ready-to-use solution at pH 6.5 that closely resembles human urine. It is colourless to slightly yellow – a colour dye gives it the look of real human urine – and odourless to slightly odorous, and the pH can be set anywhere in the range 6.0 to 6.5 or customized further.
BZ340 is used by diagnostic companies for the testing of biosensor devices, by the biomedical and textile testing industries, and by laboratories as a matrix for quality-control preparations. Makers of urine catheters, diapers, sanitary pads, high-performance textiles, biosensors and diagnostic tests all need to test their products against urine, and an artificial human urine gives the same, repeatable result anywhere and at any time. It is not a substitute for a real specimen and must not be submitted as one.
It is supplied stabilized, with 0.05% preservative, and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Can BZ340 replace real urine in product testing?
Yes, for testing products and devices. It gives the same composition and pH in every batch, so tests on catheters, diapers, textiles, biosensors and diagnostic devices can be repeated anywhere. It is a laboratory test liquid and must not be submitted as a real specimen.
How long does the solution keep?
Unopened, the stabilized solution has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C. A preservative-free version with a 6-month shelf life and a dried Powder Version Kit with a 2-year shelf life are available on request.
