Product Overview

Biochemazone Acetate Buffer BZ225 is a ready-to-use acetic acid–sodium acetate buffer – a weak acid paired with its salt – for work that needs a stable acidic pH between 3.6 and 6.0. The pH is set by the acetic acid : sodium acetate ratio, centred on the pKa of acetic acid (4.76).

Acetate buffers are simple, inexpensive and UV-transparent at most working wavelengths. They are widely used for acid-pH enzyme assays, cation-exchange chromatography, protein and nanoparticle work at endosomal pH, staining procedures and as substrate buffers. The buffer is supplied at the pH you need within this range.

Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.

Frequently asked questions

What pH range does acetate buffer cover?

Acetate buffers work from about pH 3.6 to 5.8, centred on the acetic acid pKa of 4.76. Buffering is weaker towards pH 6.0.

How do I order a specific pH and molarity?

Choose your pack size and add the required pH and molarity in the order notes, or email info@biochemazone.com before ordering.

Acetate or citrate buffer – which should I use?

Both cover acidic pH. Acetate is simpler and does not bind metal ions; citrate chelates calcium and other metals, which can affect some enzymes.

Can I use it for cation-exchange chromatography?

Yes. Acetate buffers at pH 4–5.5 are widely used to equilibrate and run cation-exchange columns.

How should acetate buffer be stored?

Store at 2–30 °C, tightly closed. Unopened bottles have a 1-year shelf life and ship at room temperature.
