Biochemazone Synthetic Urine (JIS S 0252:2021 Compliant) BZ534 is a laboratory-formulated urine simulant designed in line with the test requirements of JIS S 0252:2021. It replicates the physicochemical properties of human urine – pH, ionic strength, conductivity and salt composition – in a water-based electrolyte solution with urea, salts and buffers, at pH about 6.0. It is clear and colourless and contains no proteins and no cells.
BZ534 is used for absorbency and retention testing of diapers and sanitary products and the evaluation of superabsorbent polymers, for the calibration of urinalysis strips and biosensors and the validation of point-of-care urine tests, for material compatibility and degradation studies, and for testing filtration and adsorption materials and coatings exposed to biological fluids. It gives a reproducible alternative to biological urine, without its variability.
Unopened, it has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C and is shipped at room temperature; a preservative-free version and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. It is not sterile by default; a sterile-filtered option is available on request. The pH can be adjusted from 4.5 to 8.0, and the ionic strength and conductivity can be varied.
