Product Overview
Biochemazone Simulated Platelet-Free Plasma BZ506 is a sterile, ready-to-use synthetic fluid that replicates the biochemical and physical properties of human plasma without platelets. Its viscosity is tuned to that of human plasma, 1.2 to 1.4 cP at 37 °C, its osmolality is about 280 to 300 mOsm/kg and its pH is in the range 7.3 to 7.45. It has no clotting activity, is non-pyrogenic, non-toxic and latex-free, and is clear to slightly yellowish-brown, like plasma.
Because it is free of cells and platelets, it gives clot-free, controlled conditions. It is used for medical device testing – perfusion and flow studies, blood-contacting devices such as catheters, stents and tubing, leak, occlusion and flow-rate tests, and extracorporeal systems; for clinical and surgical training in phantoms and simulation models; for biocompatibility, thrombogenicity and biomaterial studies; and in the development of in vitro diagnostics, as an assay test fluid and a control matrix for laboratory instruments.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The viscosity, density, pH and electrolyte profile can be customized, and radiopaque additives or UV-traceable dyes can be added for flow visualization. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment. Frequently Asked Questions
Why platelet-free?
Without platelets or other cells the fluid does not clot, so flow, perfusion and device tests run under controlled conditions, and thrombogenicity can be studied without interference.
How long does the solution keep?
Unopened, the stabilized solution has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C. A preservative-free version with a 6-month shelf life and a dried Powder Version Kit with a 2-year shelf life are available on request.
