Biochemazone Artificial Cerebrospinal Solution (ACSF, Sterile) BZ178, also called artificial cerebrospinal fluid (aCSF) or cerebrospinal fluid simulation fluid, is a colourless, transparent, sterile liquid that simulates the human cerebrospinal fluid environment, at pH 7.4. Its ion concentration, pH value and crystal osmotic pressure are like those of human cerebrospinal fluid. It is sterilized through a 0.22 µm sterile filter membrane and can be used directly.
In scientific research, artificial cerebrospinal fluid (aCSF) is used as a substitute for the natural fluid: it protects neurons during brain slice perfusion, and it is commonly used to maintain pH balance and tissue oxygen transport, in rat brain microdialysis experiments and in the culture of hippocampal tissue slices. For work at body temperature it is taken out half an hour in advance and warmed to 37 °C; other experiments follow the specific experiment plan.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
