Product Overview
Biochemazone Brain-Slice Cutting Solutions BZ641 are protective solutions for preparing acute brain slices for patch-clamp and field recordings. During slicing, neurons are easily damaged by sodium influx and excitotoxicity; replacing sodium with sucrose or N-methyl-D-glucamine (NMDG) and raising magnesium greatly improves cell survival, especially in slices from adult animals.
Three solutions are offered: a sucrose cutting aCSF, an NMDG-HEPES cutting and recovery solution of the type described by Ting and colleagues, and a matching HEPES holding aCSF. When bubbled with carbogen (95% O₂ / 5% CO₂), all three have a pH of 7.3–7.4; osmolality is about 300–310 mOsm/kg and is reported for each batch.
Labile additives such as ascorbate, thiourea and pyruvate are best added fresh; they are supplied as a separate add-in on request. Solutions are sterile-filtered. Use alongside our Artificial Cerebrospinal Solution (BZ178) for recording. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
