Biochemazone Culture ACSF BZ460, also called culture artificial cerebrospinal fluid, is a ready-to-use synthetic solution designed to replicate the properties of natural cerebrospinal fluid, at pH 7.4. It replicates the ionic composition of the natural fluid and is formulated to maintain the viability of neural tissues and cells. It is clear and colourless. It contains water, the essential electrolytes sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride, glucose and other key components, which mimic the physical and chemical characteristics of the natural fluid. The pH of natural cerebrospinal fluid is about 7.35 to 7.45; the standard formulation is set at 7.4. Its viscosity and density are matched to the natural fluid, and it stays stable through the test.
Research laboratories use it in neurophysiology, brain slice electrophysiology and neural cell culture, and in drug testing, to study neuronal function and interactions in a controlled environment. It is also used to test and calibrate devices that interact with cerebrospinal fluid, such as electrodes for brain slice electrophysiology, neural sensors and drug delivery systems, in research in neuroscience and neuropharmacology, and in training in neuroscience, neurology and medical device engineering, without the need for live biological samples.
It is supplied preservative-free, so that no preservative acts on the cells and tissues in culture, and it has a 6-month shelf life unopened; a dried Powder Version Kit is available on request.
