Biochemazone Simulated Vaginal Fluid (SVF) BZ181, also called artificial or synthetic vaginal fluid, is a sterile, ready-to-use vaginal fluid simulant at pH 4.2. It simulates the properties of vaginal fluid that govern how the fluid interacts with vaginally applied products; among these properties, pH and osmolarity play the dominant role in the physicochemical processes that control drug release and distribution.
It is used to study the in vitro release of medications given by the vaginal route, and to evaluate vaginally applied topical therapeutic, contraceptive and prophylactic formulations under conditions that match the vaginal environment.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and the Simulated Vaginal Fluid (SVF) Dried Powder Kit (BZ549) are available. The pH and the contents can be customized to the project. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
