Biochemazone Artificial Saliva & Oropharyngeal Mixture BZ529 is a sterile, ready-to-use synthetic fluid engineered to closely mimic the biochemical composition, pH, viscosity and enzymatic activity of human saliva and oropharyngeal secretions. It is a buffered aqueous solution of salts, proteins and enzymatic stabilizers at pH 6.5–7.2, UV treated and sterile-filtered through 0.22 µm, and it is pathogen-free, cell-free and non-toxic.
BZ529 is used for swab validation for COVID-19, influenza and other oral and nasal diagnostic tests, for saliva-based biomarker studies and in vitro assay development, for evaluating toothbrushes, mouthwashes, oral-care products and dental materials, and for testing nebulizers, inhalers and oral drug-delivery devices. It gives consistent results without the variability or biosafety concerns of human samples.
BZ529 contains 0.05% of a mild preservative as standard, so it is supplied stabilized, with a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version is available on request. Because it contains proteins, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time.
