Product Overview

Biochemazone Modified Fusayama/Meyer Artificial Saliva BZ401 is a ready-to-use, sterile artificial saliva at pH 4.9 for testing products for corrosion, colourfastness and discolouration. It is a new version of the classic Fusayama/Meyer formula with one addition: potassium thiocyanate. Thiocyanate occurs naturally in saliva and tends to be higher in people who smoke, so including it makes the solution more like natural saliva and brings the smoker’s mouth into the test.

BZ401 closely resembles the mineral composition of natural saliva and is used to test a wide variety of products, including dental metal alloys: immersion and electrochemical corrosion tests, ion-release measurements, and colour-stability tests of materials that stay in the mouth. The default pH is 4.9, and the solution is made to the pH your method needs, from 3.0 to 6.8.

BZ401 contains a preservative to stop bacteria from growing, so it is supplied stabilized, with a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version is available on request. This solution is intended for alloy corrosion testing and research, not for in vivo medical use. For the classic formula see Fusayama/Meyer Artificial Saliva BZ105; for the fluoride-containing version see BZ655.
