Product Overview
Biochemazone Artificial Saliva ISO 10271-2011 BZ356 is a ready-to-use, sterile test solution at pH 2.3 for corrosion testing of metallic materials in dental devices as per ISO 10271, Dentistry – Corrosion test methods for metallic materials. The static immersion test of the standard uses an acidic solution of lactic acid and sodium chloride at pH 2.3: the metal is immersed for a set time and the ions it releases into the solution are measured.
BZ356 is used to test dental casting alloys, base-metal and precious alloys, orthodontic wires and brackets, implant components, solders and other metallic materials used in the mouth. The strongly acidic solution is an accelerated, worst-case condition, so that alloys can be ranked by the amount of metal they release. The same solution is used for comparing surface treatments and manufacturing routes.
Unopened, it has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C and is shipped at room temperature; a preservative-free version and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Custom pH is available on request. This solution is intended for product testing and research, not for in vivo medical use. For other dental corrosion media see Fusayama/Meyer Artificial Saliva BZ105 and Artificial Saliva AFNOR NF S91-141 BZ106; for implant fatigue testing see Artificial Saliva ISO 14801; for ISO 10993-15 electrolytes see BZ615.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the pH as low as 2.3?
ISO 10271 uses a strongly acidic lactic acid / sodium chloride solution for the static immersion test as an accelerated, worst-case condition, so that differences between alloys show clearly in the amount of metal released.
How long does the solution keep?
Unopened, the solution has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C. A preservative-free version and a dried Powder Version Kit with a 2-year shelf life are available on request.
