Product Overview
Biochemazone Artificial Saliva – AFNOR NF S91-141 BZ106 is a ready-to-use, sterile artificial saliva at pH 7.8 prepared according to the AFNOR NF S91-141 standard procedure, which covers the biodegradability of dental metal alloys. Biodegradability here means the release of degradation products – metal ions and corrosion products – when the alloy is exposed to saliva, and the standard uses an artificial saliva so that the exposure is the same in every laboratory.
BZ106 is used for immersion and electrochemical tests of dental casting alloys, orthodontic and prosthetic alloys and metallic medical devices, to identify and quantify the degradation products they release, and to compare alloys, surface finishes and manufacturing routes. It is also used to study the colourfastness of products exposed to saliva.
Unopened, it has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C and is shipped at room temperature; a preservative-free version and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Custom pH is available on request. This solution is intended for testing and research, not for in vivo medical use. For acidic corrosion testing see Fusayama/Meyer Artificial Saliva BZ105; for the ISO method for dental metals see Artificial Saliva ISO 10271.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does biodegradability mean for a dental alloy?
It is the release of degradation products – metal ions and corrosion products – from the alloy in contact with saliva. The test measures what is released and how much.
How long does the solution keep?
Unopened, the solution has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C. A preservative-free version and a dried Powder Version Kit with a 2-year shelf life are available on request.
