Biochemazone Artificial Nerve Tissue Fluids BZ423, also called synthetic nerve tissue fluid or simulated nerve tissue fluid, is a ready-to-use synthetic solution designed to mimic the properties of natural nerve tissue fluids, at pH 7.4. It contains water, electrolytes, proteins and glucose, which replicate the physical and chemical properties of the natural material. The pH of natural nerve tissue fluids is about 7.2 to 7.4; the standard formulation is set at 7.4. Its viscosity and density are matched to the natural material, and it stays stable through the test.
Research laboratories use it to study nerve function and pathology, and in tests that assess biomarkers and simulate nervous system conditions. It is also used to test and calibrate medical devices that interact with nerve tissue fluids, such as diagnostic tools and neurological catheters, in the development of new technologies and procedures related to neural health and disease, and in training, where it gives hands-on experience without natural nerve tissue fluid.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
