Biochemazone Artificial Human Small Intestinal Mucus BZ451 is a ready-to-use synthetic solution that mimics the properties of natural small intestinal mucus, at pH 7.2. It contains water, electrolytes, proteins and mucin, which replicate the physical and chemical properties of the natural mucus. Its viscosity, density and pH are set to match the natural fluid, and it stays stable through the test.
It closely replicates the mucosal environment of the small intestine and gives a reliable model for pharmaceutical research, drug delivery testing and gastrointestinal studies: drug solubility, absorption and bioavailability testing, studies of mucus–bacteria interactions and the gut microbiome, the effect of treatments on the intestinal lining, and the testing of devices such as enteric-coated capsules.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
