Biochemazone Artificial Esophageal Mucus BZ413, also called simulated esophageal mucus, is a ready-to-use synthetic solution that mimics the properties of natural esophageal mucus, at pH 7. It contains water, electrolytes, proteins and mucin, and its viscosity, density and pH are set to match the natural mucus; it stays stable through the test.
It is developed for research on how esophageal mucus interacts with its digestive environment. It is used to test and calibrate medical devices designed to work with esophageal mucus, in the research and development of new medical technologies and procedures in gastroenterology, and in training, where it takes the place of human mucus.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
