Biochemazone Artificial Gastric Fluid BZ175, also called Simulated Gastric Fluid (SGF) or synthetic gastric fluid, is a sterile, ready-to-use solution that simulates the composition and pH of gastric juice, at pH 1.5. It is mainly composed of sodium chloride, dilute acid and pepsin, and is sterilized by 0.2 µm filtration.
Stomach acid is a strong acid produced and secreted by cells of the stomach. BZ175 is used in scientific research experiments on capsules, enteric-coated tablets and pills, as well as soft gelatin capsules and dripping pills, and to study how foods and drugs react with the acid of the stomach. The standard product contains the enzyme pepsin; a formulation without enzyme is made on request.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains enzymes, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The composition, pH, viscosity and enzymes can be customized. It is a strong acid solution, so wear a lab coat and gloves. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
