Product Overview

Biochemazone Fasted State Simulated Intestinal Fluid (FaSSIF) BZ362 is a sterile, ready-to-use biorelevant dissolution medium at pH 6.50 ± 0.1 that simulates the components and pH of the fluid of the upper intestine before a meal. It contains a bile salt (sodium taurocholate) and lecithin, following published FaSSIF recipes, with the enzymes trypsin and pancreatin, and is sterilized by 0.2 µm filtration.

FaSSIF is a very useful drug development tool. Tests in this medium help to show how an oral drug is likely to dissolve, and potentially be absorbed, in the fluid of the upper intestine before a meal. The stability, solubility and dissolution data from FaSSIF help to identify the critical factors that influence a drug’s absorption in the fasted state. It is used with capsules, enteric-coated tablets and pills, especially enteric-coated capsules.

It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains enzymes, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The composition, pH, viscosity and enzymes can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment. For the other state see Fed State Simulated Intestinal Fluid (FeSSIF); for the powder see FaSSIF Powder Version (BZ551).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is FaSSIF used for?
It is a dissolution medium that represents the fluid of the upper small intestine before a meal. Testing an oral drug in it shows how the drug is likely to dissolve in the fasted state.

How should it be stored?
Store it at 2–30 °C; because it contains enzymes, 2–8 °C is best for prolonged storage and to keep the enzymes active. It is shipped at room temperature. Unopened, the stabilized solution has a 1-year shelf life; a preservative-free version with a 6-month shelf life and a dried Powder Version Kit with a 2-year shelf life are available on request.
