Biochemazone Artificial Colonic Mucus BZ414 is a ready-to-use synthetic solution that mimics the properties of natural colonic mucus, at pH 7.5. Natural colonic mucus has a pH of about 7 to 8. It contains water, electrolytes, proteins and mucin, which replicate the physical and chemical properties of the natural mucus. Its viscosity, density and pH are set to match the natural fluid, and it stays stable through the test.
Research laboratories use it to study the interaction between mucus and the colonic environment, including digestive health and colonic function, and in tests that measure biomarkers in colonic secretions. It is also used to test and calibrate medical devices that work with colonic mucus, in the development of new technologies and procedures for the gastrointestinal tract, and in training, where it takes the place of human colonic mucus.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
