Product Overview
Biochemazone Simulated Rheum Fluid BZ456, also called artificial rheum fluid, is a ready-to-use synthetic solution designed to replicate the properties of natural ocular rheum, at pH 7.2. Rheum is the discharge that collects at the corner of the eye. It contains a balanced mixture of water, mucins, electrolytes and proteins, which mimic the physical and chemical characteristics of the natural fluid. The pH is set at 7.2, which reflects the slightly alkaline nature of natural rheum.
Research laboratories use it to study the characteristics and behaviour of ocular rheum, including its interactions with ocular tissues and tear film processes, and in assays that explore rheum-related biomarkers. It is also used to test and calibrate medical and research devices that interact with ocular fluids, such as diagnostic tools for assessing eye health, devices for analysing tear film composition and equipment designed to study ocular discharge and rheum clearance, in research on ocular physiology and eye health, and in training in ophthalmology, optometry and ocular research, without the need for actual biological samples.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized.
