Biochemazone Simulated Lacrimal Sac Fluid BZ425, also called artificial lacrimal sac fluid, is a ready-to-use synthetic solution designed to replicate the properties of natural lacrimal sac fluid, at pH 7.2. It contains electrolytes, proteins and lipids, the components of natural tears, which mimic the physical and chemical characteristics of the natural fluid. The pH of natural lacrimal sac fluid is about 7.0 to 7.4; the standard formulation is set at 7.2.
Research laboratories use it to study ocular function and pathology, and in diagnostic tests that assess eye-related biomarkers and simulate lacrimal sac conditions, which gives insight into eye health and disease mechanisms. It is also used to test and calibrate medical devices and ocular products that interact with tear fluid, such as diagnostic tools and ophthalmic formulations, in the development of new ocular technologies and procedures related to lacrimal sac function and eye health, and in training for ophthalmological and cosmetic studies, without the need for natural lacrimal sac fluid.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
