Product Overview
Biochemazone Simulated Epidural Fluid BZ441, also called artificial epidural fluid, is a ready-to-use synthetic solution designed to replicate the properties of natural epidural fluid, at pH 7.4. It contains water, electrolytes, proteins and other relevant compounds, which mimic the physical and chemical characteristics of the natural fluid. The pH of natural epidural fluid is about 7.3 to 7.4; the standard formulation is set at 7.4. Its viscosity and density are matched to the natural fluid, and it stays stable through the test.
Research laboratories use it to study the interaction between epidural fluid and the surrounding environment, including its role in spinal health and drug delivery systems, and in tests that measure biomarkers in the epidural space. It is also used to test and calibrate medical devices that interact with epidural fluid, such as spinal needles, catheters and drug delivery systems, in the development of new technologies and procedures in spinal anesthesia, pain management and neurology, and in training, without the need for human epidural fluid.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment. For the subdural space see Artificial Subdural Fluid (BZ449); for the cerebrospinal fluid see Artificial Cerebrospinal Solution (ACSF, Sterile) (BZ178).
