Biochemazone Protein-Free Serum Substitute BZ438 is a sterile, ready-to-use synthetic fluid at pH 7.4 designed to replicate the key characteristics of human serum without proteins, and to take the place of fetal bovine serum (FBS) and other animal-derived sera. Its composition is defined and controlled, so it does not vary from batch to batch as serum does.
It is formulated without steroids, hormones, proteins, amino acids, cholesterol or bilirubin, which makes it compatible with a wide range of analytes, and it contains no animal-derived components. BZ438 is used where a protein-free environment is needed – in cell culture with primary cells, stem cells and immortalized cell lines, in biochemical assays, and in drug development, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering and bioproduction.
It is supplied stabilized, with an azide-free preservative that is both bacteriostatic and bactericidal, and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request and are the ones to choose when a preservative is not wanted in the culture. The pH can be supplied from 6.8 to 9.2. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment. Does BZ438 contain a preservative?
Yes. The standard product contains an azide-free preservative with bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties. For cell culture or any work in which a preservative is not wanted, order the preservative-free version or the Powder Version Kit.
How does BZ438 differ from BZ315?
Both are animal-free serum replacements made without proteins, hormones, cholesterol and bilirubin. BZ438 is also made without amino acids; Synthetic Serum Substitute Supplement (BZ315) is made without glucose. Order the code your protocol or earlier orders name.
How long does the solution keep?
Unopened, the stabilized solution has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C. A preservative-free version with a 6-month shelf life and a dried Powder Version Kit with a 2-year shelf life are available on request.
