Product Overview

Biochemazone TBS Buffer 0.05 M, pH 7.4 BZ223 is a ready-to-use, isotonic Tris-buffered saline of 50 mM Tris-HCl and 150 mM sodium chloride. It is the classic wash and dilution buffer for immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation, ELISA and Western blotting.

Because it contains no phosphate, TBS is the preferred buffer when working with alkaline phosphatase (AP) conjugates or detecting phospho-proteins, where phosphate can interfere. Add Tween 20 or Triton X-100 to make TBST or TBS-T washes, or BSA or milk for blocking.

Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.

Frequently asked questions

What is TBS buffer used for?

TBS is a wash and dilution buffer for IHC, in situ hybridisation, ELISA and Western blotting. It keeps samples at a neutral, isotonic pH.

When should I use TBS instead of PBS?

Use TBS with alkaline phosphatase detection or when studying phospho-proteins, because phosphate in PBS can interfere.

How do I make TBST from BZ223?

Add 0.5 mL Tween 20 per litre for 0.05%, or 1 mL per litre for 0.1% Tween 20, and mix gently. Or use our ready 10X TBST (BZ226).

Does temperature change the pH?

Yes. Tris pH drops by about 0.03 units for each °C rise. The pH is set at 25 °C.

How should TBS buffer be stored?

Store at 2–30 °C, tightly closed. Unopened bottles have a 1-year shelf life and ship at room temperature.
