Biochemazone Synthetic Human Axillary Sweat BZ497 is a ready-to-use, sterile artificial underarm sweat engineered to reproduce the composition and physicochemical properties of natural human axillary perspiration. The axilla is the body site where eccrine and apocrine secretions mix, giving a sweat that is richer in organic matter and sits at a slightly higher pH than eccrine sweat from the forearm or back. BZ497 reproduces this environment with a physiological electrolyte base (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride and lactate), the typical organic load of urea, lactic acid and ammonia, and an acetate- or citrate-based buffer that holds the pH in the 4.5–6.5 axillary range (standard batch pH 6.3; other values on request).
Prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system, each batch is standardised for pH and composition so that corrosion, colour-fastness, odour-control and deodorant-efficacy results are reproducible from test to test and comparable between laboratories. The standard formulation contains a preservative system for a long shelf life; a preservative-free version and a Powder Version Kit are available for culture-related or microbiological work.
BZ497 is used wherever a product or material meets the underarm: deodorant and antiperspirant development, textile and garment testing (odour retention, staining, yellowing, fabric durability), corrosion and degradation testing of metals, coatings, plastics and composites in sweat-exposed zones, and the evaluation of wearable sensors, electrodes and skin-contact electronics operating in high-moisture axillary conditions. Companion fluids for other body sites and standards – eccrine, apocrine, foot and hand sweat, AATCC TM15, ISO 105-E04, ISO 3160-2 and JIS L 0848 perspiration – are also available.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between axillary sweat and eccrine sweat simulants?
Axillary (underarm) sweat is a mixture of eccrine and apocrine secretions with more organic matter and a higher pH than forearm eccrine sweat; BZ497 is buffered to that 4.5–6.5 underarm range, whereas our eccrine fluids follow forearm or standard-method compositions.
Can I use BZ497 for AATCC TM15 or ISO 105-E04 colour-fastness tests?
Those standards specify their own perspiration solutions – see our AATCC TM15 (BZ148) and ISO 105-E04 (BZ153 / BZ154) products. BZ497 is intended for realistic underarm-exposure studies.
