Product Overview
Biochemazone DIN 53160-2 / BS EN 1811 Artificial Perspiration BZ119 is a ready-to-use, sterile artificial sweat at pH 6.5 for the nickel-release test of EN 1811 – the reference method for the release of nickel from post assemblies inserted into pierced ears and other pierced parts of the human body, and from articles intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin. The same sodium chloride / lactic acid / urea sweat at pH 6.5 is used in DIN 53160-2 for the colour fastness of articles for common use, so one bottle serves both methods. Spectacle frames and sunglasses are outside the scope of EN 1811.
A custom-pH version (BZ121) is available, as is a Powder Version Kit for laboratories that prepare the solution fresh for each test. Unopened, it has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C and is shipped at room temperature.
Prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system, every batch is standardised for composition and pH. BZ119 is used by jewellery, watch, fastener and garment-trim manufacturers, plating shops and testing laboratories to screen articles for nickel release, and to compare alloys, platings and coatings during development.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is this solution used for?
It is the artificial sweat for EN 1811, which measures how much nickel an article releases during prolonged skin contact. The article is immersed in the sweat and the nickel released into the solution is then measured.
How soon should the solution be used?
EN 1811 calls for freshly prepared test solution, so open the bottle only when you are ready to test and use it promptly. Laboratories that prepare solution for each test series often prefer the Powder Version Kit.
