Product Overview
Biochemazone D4265-14 Artificial Sebum – Not Stabilized BZ116 is a ready-to-use artificial sebum formulated according to ASTM designation D4265-14 (also supplied to D4265-98), the ASTM guide for evaluating stain removal performance in home laundering. Sebum is the oily secretion of the sebaceous glands that spreads over skin and hair; this standardised synthetic version reproduces that soil so it can be applied reproducibly to fabrics and surfaces. The formulation can also be used with AATCC Test Method 130.
The Not Stabilized version is supplied without preservative or stabilizer, for protocols where the soil must contain only the sebum components. A stabilized version (BZ117) is available for users who open the container repeatedly over a long test programme. The sebum is offered in a liquid texture and in a semisolid (ointment-like) texture – order either one, or both for evaluation.
BZ116 is used to study how home-laundry products and wash conditions remove sebum stains from fabric, to test skincare, haircare and cleansing products, to assess oil repellency and sebum interaction on fabrics, plastics and coatings, and as the sebum soil in corrosion-resistance and alloy studies. The newer ASTM D4265-21 Artificial Sebum BZ539 and the body-site specific Human Synthetic Sebum BZ328 are also available.
