Product Overview
Biochemazone Artificial Apocrine Perspiration BZ335 is a ready-to-use, sterile synthetic apocrine sweat at pH 6.5. Apocrine glands, found mainly in the armpit and groin, produce a different sweat from the eccrine glands that cool the body: apocrine sweat is transparent to slightly cloudy, viscous and initially odourless, at a pH of 6 to 7.5. Body odour develops only when skin bacteria break it down, which is why this sweat – not eccrine sweat – is the right matrix for malodour work.
BZ335 is used to test for the development of malodour and to culture skin bacteria for testing studies. It is offered in two versions: an Oil Based version, a slightly yellow, lipid-rich fluid, and a Water Based version, a slightly turbid, viscous aqueous fluid – same pack sizes and same price. By default both versions are stabilized with mild preservatives (0.05%), with a 1-year shelf life unopened. With-odour and non-stabilized (preservative-free) versions are customized and available on request; pH, formulation and pack size can also be customized. A ready-made axillary sweat is Synthetic Human Axillary Sweat BZ497.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between apocrine and eccrine sweat?
Eccrine sweat is the watery sweat produced over most of the body for cooling. Apocrine sweat comes from glands in the armpit and groin, is more viscous and is the source of body odour once skin bacteria act on it. For eccrine sweat see Artificial Eccrine Perspiration BZ322.
What is the difference between the Oil Based and Water Based versions?
The Oil Based version is a slightly yellow, lipid-rich fluid for studies in which the oily component of underarm secretions matters, such as lipid-related odour formation and fabric or surface soiling. The Water Based version is a slightly turbid, viscous aqueous fluid at pH 6.5. Both come in the same pack sizes at the same price and are stabilized with mild preservatives (0.05%) by default.
Does BZ335 smell?
As supplied it is initially odourless, like apocrine sweat itself. A with-odour variant is available on request for malodour testing.
