Biochemazone Fed State Artificial Colonic Fluid (FeSAC) BZ380 is a sterile, ready-to-use solution that simulates the components and pH of human colonic fluid in the fed state, at pH 6.0. It is mainly composed of physiological components (bile salt and lipids), Tris, maleic acid and minerals such as sodium, chloride and phosphate, and is sterilized by 0.2 µm filtration.
After a meal the pH of the colon is mildly acid, because fermentation of nutrients lowers it. FeSAC reproduces this environment and is used to study drug interactions and the modified release of drug products intended for colonic delivery, as well as fed-state dissolution and absorption, colonic microbiome and fermentation models, and food–drug interactions in vitro.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The pH and the contents can be customized to the project. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
