Biochemazone Duodenal Papilla Fluid BZ563 is a laboratory-formulated simulant of the alkaline pancreaticobiliary secretion that enters the duodenum through the major duodenal papilla (ampulla of Vater), where bile from the common bile duct and bicarbonate-rich pancreatic juice combine before mixing with chyme. Formulated at pH 8.0 with a bicarbonate-based buffer, physiological electrolytes and bile salt (sodium taurocholate) / lecithin components, it reproduces the pH, ionic strength and surfactant environment found at the papillary orifice.
Prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system, each batch is standardised for pH and composition so that results are reproducible from test to test. The fluid is supplied ready to use and enzyme-free as standard; pancreatin or lipase supplementation can be added on request for enzyme-active studies.
BZ563 is used for the in vitro testing of biliary and pancreatic stents, ERCP accessories and drug-eluting or coated devices that are exposed to papillary secretions, for dissolution and stability studies of enteric and delayed-release formulations at duodenal-papilla pH, for in vitro models of the duodenum–ampulla region and pancreaticobiliary reflux, and as a realistic training and demonstration fluid.
