Biochemazone Simulated Pre-Urine BZ349, also called artificial pre-urine or preurin, is a sterile, ready-to-use simulant of pre-urine – the fluid found in the kidneys before it becomes urine – at pH 7.2. Pre-urine is slightly alkaline, typically pH 7.2 to 7.8, which reflects the internal environment of the body before the fluid is modified in the urinary tract. The simulant has a low albumin content and is colourless to slightly yellow with a colour dye, and odourless to slightly odorous.
BZ349 is used by diagnostic companies for the testing of biosensor devices, in biomedical research, and by laboratories as a matrix for quality-control preparations. Makers of catheters, biomedical devices, diagnostic tests and biosensors use it where a material or a sensor has to be tested against the fluid of the kidney and not against final urine. It is formulated according to official testing methods and to published research data.
It is supplied stabilized, with 0.05% preservative, and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The pH can be customized in the range 6.0 to 7.8, and the formulation, minerals, organic content and preservatives can be adjusted. Because it contains albumin, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only.
