Biochemazone 10X Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) BZ220 is a ten-times concentrated PBS stock that saves bench space and shipping weight. One bottle dilutes to ten times its volume of standard 1X PBS for cell washing, immunoassays, staining and general laboratory use.

Dilute 1 part 10X PBS with 9 parts high-purity water to obtain 1X PBS containing 137 mM sodium chloride, 2.7 mM potassium chloride and 10 mM phosphate at pH 7.4. The concentrate is free of calcium and magnesium. Concentrated phosphate gives a lower pH reading, so check pH on the diluted 1X buffer rather than on the 10X stock.

The concentrate is supplied sterile. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.

Frequently asked questions

How do I dilute 10X PBS to 1X?

Mix 1 part BZ220 with 9 parts high-purity water, for example 100 mL concentrate plus 900 mL water. Use sterile water and aseptic technique if the 1X buffer is for cell culture.

Why is the pH of the 10X concentrate lower than 7.4?

Phosphate pH depends on ionic strength. At 10X the reading is below 7.4; after 1:10 dilution the buffer is at pH 7.4. Always measure pH on the diluted 1X solution.

Crystals formed in the bottle. Is it still usable?

Yes. Concentrated PBS can crystallise in the cold. Warm the bottle to 37 °C and mix until the crystals fully dissolve, then use as normal.

Does BZ220 contain calcium or magnesium?

No. It is calcium- and magnesium-free. A version with calcium and magnesium can be prepared on request.

How long does 10X PBS last?

Store at 2–30 °C. Unopened bottles have a 1-year shelf life, and the product ships at room temperature.
