Biochemazone Human Tubal Fluid Medium (HTF) BZ521 is a laboratory-formulated, sterile, ready-to-use medium designed to mimic the ionic composition, osmolarity and pH of human oviductal (tubal) fluid, at pH 7.0 to 7.4 and about 280–300 mOsm/kg. It is a water-based matrix of salts and energy substrates, sterile-filtered at 0.22 µm, and is free from cells, pathogens and proteins unless supplemented.
BZ521 is a consistent, reproducible and biologically safe alternative to natural tubal fluid, so experiments can be controlled without human-derived samples. It is used in reproductive research and IVF studies – gamete handling and sperm capacitation, embryo culture and development, fertilization and preimplantation evaluation – for in vitro studies of the oviductal environment, for the calibration of culture systems and incubators, for testing reproductive devices and microfluidic platforms, and as a control in assisted reproduction workflows.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The preservative-free version is the one for IVF, embryo culture and gamete handling. Energy substrates, buffers, antioxidants or growth factors can be added, and the osmolarity and pH can be tuned for human or animal reproductive models.
