Product Overview

Biochemazone Citrate Buffer 0.1 M, pH 4.5 BZ203 is a sterile, ready-to-use citric acid–sodium citrate buffer for work that needs a stable, mildly acidic pH. Total citrate is 0.1 mol/L and the pH is set to 4.5 at 25 °C by the citric acid : sodium citrate ratio, so no strong acid or base is added.

Citrate buffers best between about pH 3.0 and 6.2. At pH 4.5 the buffer sits close to the second pKa of citric acid (about 4.8), which gives good capacity. The solution is sterile-filtered through a 0.2 µm membrane and filled into clean bottles, ready for acidic-pH enzyme assays, drug-release studies at lysosomal pH and preparing acid-labile reagents such as streptozotocin (STZ).

Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.

Frequently asked questions

Why use 0.1 M citrate buffer at pH 4.5?

pH 4.5 is close to the second pKa of citric acid, so the buffer holds its pH well. It is a common choice for acidic enzyme assays and drug-release tests at lysosomal pH.

Can I use BZ203 to dissolve streptozotocin (STZ)?

Yes. 0.1 M citrate pH 4.5 is the buffer most often used in research protocols for STZ. STZ breaks down quickly in solution, so dissolve it in cold buffer right before use.

Is the buffer sterile?

Yes. It is filtered through a 0.2 µm membrane. Once opened, handle it aseptically to keep it sterile.

Can I dilute it to 0.05 M?

Yes. Dilute 1:1 with high-purity water. The pH shifts only slightly; check it if your method needs an exact value.

How should 0.1 M citrate buffer pH 4.5 be stored?

Store at 2–30 °C, tightly closed. Unopened bottles have a 1-year shelf life and ship at room temperature.
