Biochemazone Toy Safety Gastric Simulant BZ607 is the 0.07 mol/L hydrochloric acid extraction solution used to measure the migration of heavy metals and other elements from toys and children’s products. The toy safety standard EN 71-3 (Safety of toys – Migration of certain elements) uses it to simulate a child’s stomach after swallowing part of a toy, and the soluble-element extraction of ASTM F963 uses the same 0.07 mol/L acid at 37 °C.
The solution has a pH of about 1.1–1.2. Its concentration is confirmed by titration on every batch, so extractions are not biased by an acid that is too strong or too weak. It is prepared from trace-metal-grade acid in ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water and checked for a low element blank.
