Biochemazone Synthetic Blood ISO 22609 BZ569 is a red, non-biological test fluid prepared for ISO 22609, the test method for resistance of medical face masks to penetration by synthetic blood. In the method, a fixed volume of fluid is projected horizontally at the mask at velocities that correspond to human blood pressures of 10.6, 16.0 and 21.3 kPa (80, 120 and 160 mmHg), and the inner side of the mask is inspected for penetration.
The European medical face mask standard EN 14683 uses this method for the splash-resistance requirement of Type IIR masks (at least 16.0 kPa). Each batch of BZ569 is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system and checked for surface tension (0.042 ± 0.002 N/m) and pH (7.3; typical range 7.2–7.4).
BZ569 is used by mask manufacturers, test laboratories and certification bodies for splash-resistance testing, production quality control and material development. It contains no human or animal blood.
