Product Overview
Biochemazone Synthetic Blood ASTM F1819 BZ586 is a red, non-biological test fluid prepared for ASTM F1819, the standard test method for resistance of materials used in protective clothing to penetration by synthetic blood using a mechanical pressure technique. In this method, pressure is applied to the specimen and synthetic blood through a mechanical system rather than by fluid head, which suits surgical gown and drape materials tested under simulated contact pressure.
Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system and checked for surface tension (0.042 ± 0.002 N/m) and pH (7.3; typical range 7.2–7.4), so the fluid wets materials the way blood and body fluids do. The strong red colour gives a clear visual end point.
BZ586 is used by surgical gown and drape manufacturers and test laboratories for barrier classification and production quality control. It contains no human or animal blood. For the ASTM F1670, ISO 16603 and ISO 22609 methods see our matching synthetic blood products.
Key Features & Benefits
✅ Made for ASTM F1819 – Test fluid for the mechanical-pressure synthetic-blood penetration method
✅ Controlled Surface Tension – 0.042 ± 0.002 N/m (42 ± 2 mN/m), representative of blood and body fluids
✅ pH 7.3 (Range 7.2–7.4) – Close to the pH of human blood
✅ Strong Red Colour – Clear visual detection of strike-through
✅ Non-Biological & Biosafe – No human or animal blood; no infection risk
✅ Consistent Batch-to-Batch – Standardised formulation for reproducible results
✅ Ready-to-Use – No dilution or mixing required
✅ Made in Canada – Manufactured under ISO 9001 / GMP quality systems
