Biochemazone Simulated Meconium Fluid BZ455 is a ready-to-use synthetic solution that replicates the properties of natural meconium, at pH 7.0. Meconium is a newborn’s first stool: a sticky, thick, dark green material made up of cells, protein, fats and intestinal secretions such as bile. BZ455 contains a balanced mixture of water, bile salts, electrolytes and other biomolecules that mimic its physical and chemical characteristics, and its colour is adjusted to the dark green to blackish appearance of natural meconium. Its viscosity, density and pH are set to match the natural fluid, and it stays stable through the test.
Research laboratories use it to study the characteristics and behaviour of meconium, including its interaction with neonatal tissues and gastrointestinal processes, and in assays that explore meconium-related biomarkers. It is also used to test and calibrate medical and research devices that meet meconium or related neonatal fluids, and in the training of students and professionals in neonatology, paediatric medicine and gastrointestinal research, without the need for real samples.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
