Biochemazone Simulated Cochlear Fluid BZ286, also called artificial cochlear fluid or synthetic cochlear fluid, is a sterile, ready-to-use solution that simulates the composition and pH of the fluid of the cochlea. It is supplied at pH 7.4, and the pH can be customized to the project requirement.
The cochlear canals contain two types of fluid: perilymph and endolymph. Perilymph has an ionic composition similar to that of the extracellular fluid found elsewhere in the body, and it fills the scala tympani and the scala vestibuli. Endolymph, found inside the cochlear duct (scala media), has a unique composition not found elsewhere in the body. BZ286 gives laboratories a cochlear fluid of constant composition for inner-ear drug-delivery and device research.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
