Biochemazone Simulated Endolymph Fluid BZ287, also called artificial endolymph fluid or synthetic endolymph, is a sterile, ready-to-use solution that simulates the composition and pH of endolymph. It is supplied at pH 7.4, and the pH can be customized to the project requirement.
Endolymph is the fluid contained in the membranous labyrinth of the inner ear. It is also called Scarpa’s fluid, after Antonio Scarpa. Its major cation is potassium: the sodium and potassium concentrations of endolymph are 0.91 mM and 154 mM respectively – the reverse of most extracellular fluids. BZ287 gives laboratories an endolymph simulant of constant composition for in vitro inner-ear research, in place of a fluid that cannot practically be collected.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment. How does endolymph differ from perilymph?
