Biochemazone Artificial Menses Blood with Clots BZ559 is a sterile, ready-to-use menstrual blood simulant at pH 7.40 with suspended clot-like particles. It is designed to mimic the appearance, viscosity, flow behaviour and uneven composition of menstrual discharge, including the clots commonly seen during menstruation.
Menstrual fluid is a complex mixture of blood, vaginal secretions, endometrial tissue fragments, mucus, proteins and cell debris, released when the functional layer of the endometrium is shed. The clots, formed from coagulated blood and tissue fragments, give it its particular flow properties. BZ559 gives researchers, manufacturers and test laboratories a safe, reproducible and standardized alternative to human samples, for evaluating feminine hygiene products, absorbent materials, medical devices, fluid-handling systems and diagnostic technologies, and for training and method validation.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The clot size distribution, viscosity and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment. BZ559 contains suspended clot-like particles, for tests in which the clots matter – for example absorbency and flow through hygiene products. Artificial Menses Fluid (BZ266) is the menses fluid without clots.

Unopened, the stabilized solution has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C. A preservative-free version with a 6-month shelf life and a dried Powder Version Kit with a 2-year shelf life are available on request.
