Biochemazone Airway Mucus Simulant Viscosity Set BZ611 provides airway mucus simulants in three graded consistencies – thin, medium and thick – covering the range from normal airway secretions to the tenacious sputum seen in chronic lung disease and in ventilated patients. Devices that clear or remove mucus have to work across this whole range.
The simulants are mucin- and polymer-based viscoelastic gels at a pH of about 7.0 (range 6.8–7.2). Each grade is measured by rotational rheometry and the viscosity at a stated shear rate is reported on the certificate, so the same grade gives the same resistance from batch to batch. A blue tint is available on request for visual clearance studies.
Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system. The mucin is of porcine origin.
