Biochemazone DIN 53160:2023-07 Compliant Saliva Simulant BZ445 is a ready-to-use artificial saliva at pH 6.8 produced in accordance with the current DIN 53160:2023-07, Determination of the colourfastness of articles for common use. The 2023 edition combines the former saliva part (DIN 53160-1:2010-10) and perspiration part in one standard. The simulant contains the essential salts of saliva – such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride and calcium chloride – and reproduces the ionic environment of the mouth.
BZ445 is used to test whether colour transfers from articles that are put in the mouth or come into contact with saliva: toys and children’s articles, utensils and oral-care products, textiles and dyes for infants and children, and the materials of oral and dental devices. It gives test laboratories and manufacturers the test liquid in a ready, reproducible form.
