Biochemazone Artificial Menses Fluid BZ266, also called simulated menses fluid, is a sterile, ready-to-use menstrual fluid simulant at pH 7.40. It simulates the composition and pH of menstrual fluid and is red in colour.
Menstrual blood is a complex biological fluid composed of blood, vaginal secretions and the endometrial cells of the uterine wall. It is released when the functional layer of the endometrium is shed at the start of the menstrual cycle, and its protein content reflects the changing function of the uterus through the cycle. BZ266 gives a consistent, non-human matrix for in vitro research and testing that needs a menstrual fluid, in place of human samples.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. The pH and the contents can be customized to the project. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment. BZ266 is the menses fluid without clots. Artificial Menses Blood with Clots (BZ559) contains suspended clot-like particles, for tests in which the clots matter.
