Biochemazone Simulated Tears BZ182, also called artificial tears or synthetic tear fluid, is a sterile, ready-to-use solution that simulates the composition and pH of tear fluid. It is sterilized by 0.2 µm filtration and supplied at pH 7.4; the pH can be customized on request.
BZ182 is used to study the in vitro release of medications and drugs given by the ophthalmic route, for in vitro studies of topical therapeutics applied to the eye – eye drops and topical ointment formulations – and for in vitro sustained drug release studies. It gives a tear fluid of the same composition from test to test.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein and mucin, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The pH and the contents can be customized to the project. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
