Product Overview

Biochemazone Standard Saline Solution for Contact Lens Testing BZ579 is the buffered saline specified in ISO 18369-3 (Ophthalmic optics – Contact lenses – Part 3: Measurement methods), clause 4.9 “Saline solution for testing”. The standard uses this solution to equilibrate soft and rigid contact lenses before their dimensions, optical power and physical properties are measured, so that results from different laboratories can be compared.

The solution is a phosphate-buffered sodium chloride solution at a neutral pH of about 7.2–7.4, close to the tear film. Each batch is made to the clause 4.9 formulation with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water, filtered, and checked for pH and osmolality under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.

BZ579 is used by contact lens manufacturers, optical test laboratories and regulatory testing bodies for lens equilibration, dimensional and power measurement, water-content and refractive-index testing, and as the reference saline for lens-care product studies.
